ELECTRIC POWER STEERING INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS

1967-1979 FORD F100-F150 4×4

STEP 1:   Remove old steering components.

-Remove the stock steering shaft.

-Remove all hydraulic power steering components. (pump, hose, cylinder, and brackets)

-Remove two top motor mount bolts.

-Cut a 1 ½” hole in the firewall for wiring. (Hole saw works best)

-Install a grommet to protect wiring harnesses.

Step 2:   Install electric power steering

-Install a short shaft onto the front of the EPS unit.

-Install a long shaft onto the back of the Eps unit. Only install so splines are just barely sticking out into the u-joint area

-tighten both set screws and locking nuts on both short and long shafts.

-Install EPS unit and shafts as one unit.

-Install the short shaft onto the gearbox first. Next, install a long shaft onto the steering column.

-The steering column may need to be moved towards the driver for easier installation. There are two bolts under the column cover on the dash.

-Install motor mount bolts into the EPS bracket and tighten.

-Install a pinch bolt in the short shaft at the gearbox. Tighten the set screw and nut on the long shaft at the steering column.

Step 3: Wiring

-The ground wire in the bag goes from the engine to the firewall.

-grounds are very important as with any electrical system. Clean any area to bare metal where a ground is being installed.

-Run EPS unit wiring alongside the factory headlight harness. Next run over

And behind the booster bracket and into a 1 ½” hole in the firewall.

-Install the main power harness from the battery side of the solenoid along the top of the firewall and behind the engine. (Do not hook up battery power yet)

-Install the module with bracket inside the cab, under the dash. Directly above the throttle pedal works best- as all wires are built to length to this location.

-use two self-drilling screws to mount the module bracket in place.

-install one self-drilling screw into a small black ground wire.

-Hook up a small red wire to fuse in the factory fuse box. (key on power) Use the brass clip to fit around the fuse.

-Install the sensitivity knob on the left side of the steering column on the dash. Other locations are fine just keep in mind moving parts (clutch linkage and brake linkage.) under the dash when installing.

-Plug in all wiring connections to the module.

-Zip tie or use cable clamps to secure all wiring harnesses and double check all bolts are tight.

Step 4: Almost done!

-Double-check check all bolts are tight and that the wiring harnesses are not interfering with moving or other harmful components. (exhaust sharp edges.)

-Install main power at the starter solenoid.

-Turn the key on. Listen for the module to make a “click” noise. (if none turn the sensitivity knob up or clockwise,)

– you now have the best power steering you or your pickup could ever need

 Enjoy!!
